Rebreathers are or can be Self Contained Underwater Breathig Apartus (SCUBA), unlike conventional SCUBA (Open Circuit) where exhaled breath is released into the water. Rebreather recyle the gas from the lungs thought a chemical scrubber, which removes Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This gas then have the oxygen levels topped up in one of several ways (depending on the type of rebreather).

A Closed Circuit Rebreather uses 100% Oxygen to top the levels up whereas a Semi Closed Circuit Rebtreather uses a mix of enriched air (Nitrox).
